Silver cross in the village church of Bebede

In the village church of Bebede (North-Iraq, not far from Amadiah and the border with Turkey) this beautifully decorated silver cross was put on the lectern in front of the altar. Most ritual crosses in the Assyrian Church of the East have been replaced by imported, more modern ones, this one suggests an older and perhaps local provenance. While the church had been destroyed in the Saddam-era, the cross survived these and earlier violent episodes.
